The Danger of Thinking

Having had some more time available than usual, owing to it being the holidays, I've been checking out some of the many and various blogs. There's an awful lot of really insightful Christian thinking, pondering on the Word, and cultural engagement going on, which must be a good thing. And by mostly from young evangelicals.

The only danger seems to be the age-old danger of the young (pun intended) - pride. I was talking to the student worker at our (mainly student) church recently, who was saying that the one thing he can't stand is student pride - because it's so common among young Christian students of a certain conservative evangelical bent (come on, we know who we are!), and because it's just sinful. Full stop. So what of blogging? Well we can preface our comments with as much humble disclaimer as we like, but the pride of people listening to our thoughts is bound to creep in. The pride of thinking, for example, we're just as clever, but half as tradition-bound than our elders.

It's easy to moan, so this isn't a moan! It's a challenge to me, more than any one else, to be able to articulate my thoughts and appreciate them without pride. To remember that wisdom is a long, long way off!
